That's a good point, I hope that can be answered soon.
This contest sounds very good, no doubts it will have many participants... I may do it but it is too bad 8472 do not participate, it would have a chance to show some of my never-before-seen bioships |

When I posted the info I was a bit confused myself.. |

You can design 1, but both is adventageous as both designs would be made for Future Tense II.
If the person only has 1 design and wins 1st place, then that model is made for Future Tense II. The 2nd place's duel designs are then made, or the thirds if they have only one. If all three winners have 1 design, then we'll select a forth place winner and organize a prize if that situation arises.
As for the layout or type, I don't mind, but a Spec shot (Top, Bottom, Side, Front, Back) will be needed to acurately build the ships at some stage, though 3D perspected shots are beneficial too. You are limited to one design per item, however you can resubmit before the closure with amendments or with a completely different design. On the closing date there is also no limit on the amount of pictures either, as long as its your original design and not kitbashed from others canon or otherwise (EG: A galaxy class with sovereign nacelles, or Atolm's Warbird with the head of a Mekat Class.
All the submitted designs will be taken in where the Future Tense judging panel (to be announced later) will decide what designs are the best, and what goes through to the winning three.
I'd just also like to point out we'll be grading it on design, not how flash the pictures look, so a pencil drawing could outmatch a 3D 60030929309234 poly model of something if that makes sense. Makes things fair and we are after designs for units rather than pretty pictures. Use whatever you have as mediums, either a computer program or good ol' fashion pen n' paper, all designs are welcomed.

The USS Pioneer NX-9417 (refit version circa 2369)
Originally designed to complement the Ambassador class battleship, the Pioneer class project was ultimately scrapped after 10 vessels were built. Starfleet, in it's wisdom, decided not to waste perfectly good hulls, so the vessels have been refitted over time.
The class was originally deemed too slow due to the large amount of mass used for experimental tritanium hull armour, although propulsion refits have negated this somewhat. The armour was super seeded by much lighter materials but still gives the class impressive hull strength for its size, but at the expense of acceleration and manoeuvrability. The vessel is similar in size and strength to a New-Orleans class cruiser.
