Patch Project 1.25 on Armada Files - Mods
  Posted by: Joelteon7 on 01-21-2008 @ 14:25 - Source: Armada Files/Fleet Ops

The staff here at Armada Files do our utmost in an attempt to provide you with the best possible service. Sometimes, we have to make decisions that many will not like, including what we personally think; don’t get us wrong, we love all the different types of mods just as much as you do. Any decision we make effects us too.

Notably, this plays out recently in the form of the decision we made to remove Fleet Operations and the Patch Project, by the same developers, from the site as we deemed them in breach of various rules and regulations (involving the game’s User Agreement and FileFront and its parent’s Ziff Davis’ own set of rules).

We recognise however that the aforementioned developers have endeavoured to carry on with their projects regardless, whilst trying to get them re-hosted back on this site. Happily, I can announce that that has been partially achieved, as we will now be hosting the Patch Project, from 1.25 onwards, as well as future builds of the Fleet Operations mod (if they follow them same method as PP as 1.25 follows).

What does this mean for you? It means you can download PP and possibly FO from here in the future again. If you wish to include elements from either and have that mod posted on the site, it is now possible to do so. There are however two points we want to make you aware of.

Firstly, if in the future, there is a concern of liability over hosting PP or FO, we will have to investigate again. Should the items be taken down, other pieces of work that include the aforementioned elements from them would also have to be investigated and could be taken down as well. Secondly, previous versions of the PP and FO we still have a concern for them in terms of liability and will not be put back onto the site.

That aside, I’d like to thank all those who accepted our decisions, be it with appreciation or anger. We know it’s not easy, but as I said, we try to do what we can to serve you, not to deprive you.

Re-commence downloading.

Sounds fair, I like it. Is this because they managed to use un-edited exe's? Anywho, good news for all who like FLOPS

I applaud your decision, now, and then as well... i know people have their issues previously, but you had rules and guidelines which you had to stick to... that the FO team have recognised this and endeavoured to work in such a way that does not alter the exe's confirms that you did the right thing, and its good to see that as such, its returned to the site.

Well done to both the FF and FO staff!Hmmm Donut!

Well actually from what I've been told by DoCa and how the patch now works all you need to do is specify that your mod requires the PP. Any ODF files which use commands that the PP provides are just base files and without the PP will not work.

Other than that I'm still, and always be, of the mind that the source code for both games should have been released long ago and the game made freely downloadable.

Myself and Joel took a look at it Sunday evening and in our opinion it didn't break any of the network's rules. As we said, the only issue was that it was breaching the FF/ZDM rules, so we dropped a message to the FO team telling them we would be willing to host these files if they were interested in us hosting them.

Well, I think there's only one way to sum this up:

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would you include PP in a mod release anyway? Can you not just add in the odf codes, and then ppl can get it (PP) from elsewhere should it be removed from the site. Right?

FO and the patch project are awesome btw, and it's fantastic that the legality issues have been resolved!
