How is noone voting for far beyond the stars? that episode is the best!
I always liked the mirror universe myself
Section 31 appeals to me, trek needed more espionage and spying
Section 31 always seemed to drive me a little nuts.
Section 31. How can anyone not be intrigued by sneaky people?
The Mirror episodes I thought differed too much from the original concept drafted in the Original series, the "Far beyond the stars" episode just wasn't my taste and though the Ferengi episodes were always very funny, I think if they had made more of them, it would have lost its charm.
So I'm gonna have to go with the Klingon arcs or Jem'Hadar arcs, because in those, you can be certain there's going to be fighting and other battles. The fleet action scenes I found the most entertaining part of DS9.
While im all about starship battles...hey this is Armada afterall lolol...i loved the terrorist episodes with Kira aiding the Cardassians like Damar and Garak in their quest to free Cardassia from the Dominion. I also liked Emissary episodes with Sisko, because hey...its who my screenie is named for LOLOL

Haha, Hes already making an AR Excelsior.
A constellation class with four of those chunky naclles would be awesome!
There is no AR NX. The time line didn't change till 2233. The NX is from the 2150's
I voted Excelsior (which I am toying with currently) but a Romulan design would be awesome........*looks around*.........PEPPERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to see an Akula or similar SFB design vessel. I feel an Excelsoir would be a fair way off and really should appear till after a Constitution refit has been seen.
But considering this is modding and fandom I say any of them however I still would like to see an Akula, perhaps as a replacement to the Kelvin type.
I think everyone knows my opinion about AR. But if we can't avoid it... well, a new Romulan ship would be cool. Or my precious Excelsior
Oh, I totally glazed over the Rommies, that'd be cool too, but I narrowly decided the dreadnought. The "original" dreadnought wasn't too different, but something always intrigued me about it. I am assuming dreadnought= Federation class, and not Star Empire class from the novel. I don't know why, but I am curious about a Constellation class too.
@#2 - "There is no AR NX. The time line didn't change till 2233. The NX is from the 2150's "
There are two different theories of AR. The first one is that Nero and Spock really travelled through time. This seems to be what you prefer. However, the second theory states that AR and the Prime Universe are not only different time lines, but also different realities/universes (that's why it's named AR...) where history does not have to be parallel. There is no canon evidence clearly supporting one of the theories, so we don't know yet.
"There is no AR NX."
There's no TNG Constitution class either but I seem to recall having seen a fair number of upgraded and otherwise kitbashed variants over the years. Imagination is a wonderful thing.
As much as I dislike that Reality, the NX could look pretty good in that style. Only ships from that area, though.
how about an AR Sovereign?
Well I voted for the Excelsior Class though I wouldn't mind seeing an Akula Class.
@7- There were not 2 different alternate realities both Nero & Spock (Both of them) explained how they did in fact traveled though time & that it was Nero's sudden arrival & the destruction of the Kelvin that the time line changed & generated an alternate reality so up into that point the time line was intact so the Enterprise genre is viable keep in mind it's Star Treks future that going to change(TMP,TNG,etc) not the past. The only problem I have with that scenario is that shouldn't Nero have tried to contact the Romulans of that time period?
The Time Travel explanation doesn't explain the fact that the USS Kelvin had the new style, before Nero arrived.
"keep in mind it's Star Treks future that going to change(TMP,TNG,etc) not the past."
Again, I'm not sure that effects anything. My original point was that the apparent obsolete nature of the Constitution class hasn't prevented anyone from putting refits of that ship well into the 25th century (STO does this). There's no reason the NX couldn't be refit in the same way in that alternate reality.
"shouldn't Nero have tried to contact the Romulans of that time period?"
No, his revenge was bound strictly by the Temporal Prime Directive.
Actually, he may very well have done so-- it'll be interesting to see whether or not he has in the next film. Romulan warbirds with post-Nemesis technology and weapons at their disposal could make "Balance of Terror" look like a training mission.
@ #10: I decided to keep it in the immediate period of time in and around Kirk's younger days. The Sovereign would be a massive leap in the future from then. And it'd be about twelve kilometres long.
As for the Kelvin's style prior to the Narada's arrival. There is about 100 years between the NX and the Constitution which was never seen prior to the Kelvin. There is absolutely nothing saying that the Kelvin did not exist in the prime universe.
And for if Nero had contacted the Empire....i'd venture to say no. The Narada was severely enough damaged after the encounter with the Kelvin that it was captured by Klingons. Nero and his crew escaped prison just in time to capture Spock Prime. I'd have guess that after the destructions of the Federations worlds, he'd have conquered and seized control of the Empire.
I Voted, NONE!
@13, "I'm not sure that effects anything", Oh yes it will the obvious example is the Enterprise herself & the fact Vulcan no longer exist so there impact in the AR universe is lessened since they are trying to rebuild. And also Nero is out for revenge so I don't think he cares to much about the Temporal Prime Directive & besides that the directive was already violated when he attacked & destroyed the Kelvin.
@12,I agree with Scififan, since this is a first "True Attempt" at a back story for star trek
& there is a lot of unknowns here.
Personaly i think the ar enterprise looks cool, and the whole ar universe is an awesome idea as it adds a lot of new possibilities for new movies mods and games. But i hope this isn't the end of the line for prime universe star trek story line as we know it. That would not be cool at all
Also did anyone else notice the kelvin pretty much is and akula class? so it would have to be a refit class also for that matter, same as the nx class
The Temporal Prime Directive is a Federation Law based on Cpt. Archer's experienced in the Temporal Cold War. The Romulan Empire is its own sovereign nation state; they would not be affected or forced to adhere to the Temporal Prime Directive at all.
@#14 Maybe the Kelvin type existed in the original universe, but I'm sure that the only explanation of the whole mess is a complete alternative universe. We know how the Daedalus Class worked, and it's definitely older than the Kelvin. We also know that the systems of the Daedalus were quite similar to the Constitution's, there were no major changes in the theory of the propulsion system for example.
But if you look at the interior of the Kelvin or the "other" Enterprise, it doesn't looks like a starship but a submarine - totally different to the starship standard used by the Federation from the beginning. Or look at the LCARS systems of the ships! Similar designs appear only in the Ambassadors in the prime universe.
And in the end: How is it possible that the Kelvin had ~700 crew (and relatives!)? It's smaller than the Constitutiton, it's capacity should be around the Miranda's. The only logical explanation is an alternative universe where the starship designs are radically different from the very beginning.
Oh be quiet all, I already have a design up

| | FST Perseus - Mods Posted by: theStarfleetKid on 02-21-2010 @ 17:54 | | | This News Item has been viewed 808 times! | Armada 2 News | Hello again modding fans! I'm really into this TOS/Pre-TOS era, and modeling the ships and stations therein. I've completed my Pre TOS mod, just waiting on some more permissions to release it.
Presently I am working on the TOS era vessels, and I've already finished my Pelham class construction vessel, which has been released, and I've just finished the entire canon Constitution class, from the Constitution to the Kongo, which I will also release in the near future.
While I was getting ideas for how to better design the Constitution class, I ran across a site years ago that had a unique ship that is non-canon, which I felt would make an excellent repair vessel. That ship being the FST Perseus class:
http://www.cloudster.com/Sets&Vehicles/STEnterprise/EnterpriseRenderings/EnterpriseRenderings.htm
Through some hard work to get the painstaking detail that this model deserves, I was finally able to finish it, and I must say I was quite impressed with it. The textures are partially mine, over 90% of them, using only some bussard cap and side decals from the Stress Puppy, plus I used some renderings from the original artist, Phil Broad for the hangar detail. The mesh is 100% mine, copied exclusively by my eyes only, so it may not be 100% to scale, but I believe it is noteworthy, well, see for yourself. Once I get Phil Broad's permission, I will upload it.
There will be three versions of it, the warp repair vessel, the repair ship, and the Federation Repair Team type. Until then, enjoy these Storm 3D shots.

I'm definitely thinking, Klingons. The way they nose out and sweep back into wings gives them there menace. The Romulans would be my second choice. The rest are not terrifying in and of themselves, but rather by what they represent.
Borg. Only the size of their ships is enough to scare the enemy. When they begin fire, they become even more scary
But when you see a Borg ship first time, what do you think? "How big this thing is?! How can it fly anyway? And what the hell they want and why don't answer my hails?!"
@ #2 - That's no moon! It's a space ship!
The Borg, of course. But I'd choose the Romulans and Cardassians as second and third. And the old D7 was really menacing in the old days...
The Dominion get my vote. Their battleships are big and intimidating, as well as representing the Dominion's power. The super battleships defending Cardassia at the end of What You Leave Behind would be enough to menace every other race in the galaxy. The Borg ships score in size but I don't find anything menacing about a cube or sphere.
i got to vote for D7 obviously... simple and menacing
I voted romulans...the way the D'Deridex decloaks for the first time in 'The Neutral Zone' and dwarfs the Enterprise-D is just crazy... same with the Scimitar when it decloaks and again dwarfs the larger Enterprise-E.....
I Voted The Romulans. The size itself is menacing but then it looks very predatory too.
a close second for me would be the Breen. Their ships are non simetrical and you are never quite sure what is what on their ships. The unknown is always scary and that is menacing.
I personally think the Dominion. I considered the Romulans, but they looked more majestic than menacing to me.
Borg are sooo Cool so I go with borg
Borg? really???? i mean ya, they're cool and all, but when i see them towering over something o feel more like laughing then cowering in fear. The Negh'Var class (Klingon) has had so many scenes where just the look of it could make even the greatest starfleet admiral piss his pants.
I voted Dominion. The Romulans were a close second for me. The D'deridex does look majestic but the Valdore....now that's a menacing ship.
My money is on the Borg they don't come more menacing or Intimidating than a Borg Cube ...Resistance Is Futile!

I'm not sure. The Sovereign and Akira are quite starfleet-ish. The Steamrunner, well, it's an unconventional design, but it's not implausible if we remember the other compact design (that would be the Defiant). The Sabre's design is also quite radical, but the configuration reminds me of the Miranda. I think the Norway is probably the most un-starfleet-ish design. But even the Norway has similarities to other StarFleet ships, the Prometheus for example.
So, I'd say it's the Sabre or Norway.
I'd have to say the Sabre, it just looks like somthing cobbled together from the starfleet junk bin... Honestly I have never liked the design, it is so un-thought out..
Given the Choices I vote the Steamrunner Class. Although I see alot of Starfleet elements in it. I believe it breaks one of Rodenberry's rules is ship design regarding warp nacelle placement. But I believe those were meant to be guide lines not absolutes. Anyways, there are much worse designs that we could consider. The Elkins for example. One of the many kit bashes from Deep Space Nine.
And what about the Defiant? I think that ship also doesn't have many typical Roddenberry features.
Given the choices, I also vote Steamrunner. At first I couldn't even make out the nacelles and it just doesn't 'feel' like a Starfleet ship
I liked all of them... Thats not a choice though.
Defiant, Elkins class etc. were left out intentionally. None were new in STFC-- I could've included the Curry/Shelley too for that matter.

| | FleetOps: Impact! - Mods Posted by: TParis on 02-07-2010 @ 09:10 - Source: FleetOps Website | | | This News Item has been viewed 1592 times! | Armada 2 News | After recreating the the mod's interface almost from scratch the team remakes another outdated aspect of the mod:
the weapon, explosion and impact effects.
Quote: In the recent 3.1 patch we redid the whole user interface, as it was one of the elements in Fleet Operations, that was years old. But hey, there are other parts of the game, which are beyond their golden age, too. Some of them are definitely the weapon effects and damage visualization.
If you read the forums closely, you will probably have heard about engine improvements in the past month. The first phase of these improvements will get its major impact in the upcoming 3.1.2 patch. Impact quite literally! We are talking about the weapons, explosions and impact effects.
Armada was far away from good show-like special effects and it lacked impact effects at all, except some generic sparkling on the hull, which looked neither Trek-like, nor did it get you any feeling of big badass guns!
We therefore completely redid the weapon effects and explosions in general. You will now have detonations, fireballs and pulse blast flashes once a weapon hits. But let's finish the talking, here are some screenshots of the new Federation weaponry. Visit the forums in the next days for more screenshots of alien races.. and their tools of destruction!
[- Optec]
I will keep this post updated and inform you if there are new screenshots or other media - Optec promised to post a video once more effects of the other factions are done. Meanwhile you should check the attached screenshots. They look quite promising.

W00T!! More for FO
more all of the above I'd say, I would have voted for just more ships and stations, but after seeing and playing future wars, I'd have to say that the little details does make a heck of a difference when playing the game, like different explosion colors for different ships and species, and different shield impact colours also make a world of difference, it just adds that much more depth to the game. And better AI scripting also makes the game that much more fun to play. As for maps, I don't really think it's that important because most of us have the map editor that came with the CD and we can do our own maps anyways.
Well for me I'd have to say all of the above though I went with (More ships & stations) for me A2 has gotten a little stale here lately with the exception of the new Future Wars mod & FO 3 & though I still play it from time to time I some of the enthusiasm for this has waned somewhat & seeing that there will never be an official "Armada 3" any type of modding would be welcomed to keep this game as exciting as it was the first day it came out.
Well anything that adds more playable races to the game makes me most excited.
'More projects'
After the Ziff Davis (Davies?) debalce back last march this place has been as dead as a graveyard. Not much pulls me here like it did before, it seems so, alien. So anything that adds a bit of spark, something to be talked or debated would have a good impact.
More on topic;
Generally I like TC's as most of mods as tons and tons of.. Federation ships. A lot of the other races are left out and so I don't really download much else.
more ships and stations, but not for the feddies lol !!

| | TOS Construction Ship - Mods Posted by: Freyr on 02-02-2010 @ 05:32 - Source: Wildcard621 | | | This News Item has been viewed 1718 times! | Armada 2 News | You never can have enough construction ships. I've always wanted to do one, just could never come up with a worthy enough design. I decided on a slight Oberth design, but stocky enough to absorb battle damage and to contain all of the equipment necessary to perform construction of bases and stations, plus provide a limited role as an explorer.
I came up with the Pelham class, launched in 2280, twenty something years before the first Constitution class starship was launched. The Pelham has launchpoints for six workbees, and can hold five Type 1 shuttlecraft. She also has phasers and photon torpedoes for defense.
If there is enough interest in it, I will make it available for download, along with the 3ds and Milkshape versions of the mesh, and wireframe and buildbuttons. I did not do an ODF for it, but will make the hardpoint information available. I'd upload a screenshot, just don't know where to do it at this moment.

I'd like to pre-emptively answer the doubtlessly impending questions.
As I understand it, the problem was caused by most (but not all) of filefront's servers moving to new hardware. You haven't seen the problem happen before because Filefront has been running on it's state of the ark, vintage, collectable hardware since the year dot.
One of the first things our new owners did was make a very significant investment in new hardware for Filefront. Unfortunately, moving Filefront to it's expensive, shiny new hardware has caused a lot of problems with backend systems for inexplicable reasons. The official word from the management as of last week is that they can't promise an ETA on a fix for the voting system. There is a lot of work being done behind the scenes, and i'm sure that everybody will be happy with the end result, if not the timescale!
Thanks for your patience.
Important thing is that the files are accessable The Polls are just a plus really It'll be done when its done. I am thankful we still have FileFront at all
^^ What he said.
Well, let's hope that they DO find a fix at all.
Sending force in trek universe hehe oh well YES i am thankfull that FF is doing all they can and that its allive and YES pools are just an extra (fairly attractive extra BTW) but their absence is felt (where else can i irresponssibly toss my vote on something i know mostly NOTHING about??). You have my grattitude for making FF stay alive and best wishes with fixing those ahrem issues with too good hardvare (hey you sure it dose not use MS OS?) that is apparently so smart that its stupid.
I vote it work for me! I got my vote in and it recorded.

Sorry about the extensive time we have been without central features have been broken last year. It's worth remembering that the cause of the downtime was our new management spending a fair amount moving the site to shiny new servers which will improve the reliability of the site in the long run.
The pain of dealing with things being broken around the site has been well worth it. Now the majority of the remaining issues are resolved and we've seen out 2009 (which has at times been a little turbulent for the site!) we can look forward towards the exiting (but undisclosed) things being introduced to the site in 2010!
If you are aware of any remaining issues, please drop me a message and i'll make sure the management are aware of them.

As a result, we are accepting files submitted by email again, so please direct your files to files@armada2files.com until the upload system is fixed.
On a side note, does anybody has any comments on the new design? If so, we're quite happy to pass them along to the people responsible for making them.

| | New banner & Artwork - Site News Posted by: Freyr on 12-17-2009 @ 10:03 - Source: Freyr | | | This News Item has been viewed 3516 times! | Armada 2 News | I'd delighted to announce that our new banner has been approved and replaced by the management. The reason for this change goes back quite a way to when we last added an affiliate, they offered to put a banner up with our logo on it. We took a look at the now slightly dated banners we have dating from 2001 and said we'd be happy with a text link as the existing banners are a bit dated. (to put it nicely!)
I then decided to design a new banner for future use. In doing a new banner I ended up doing looking for a site logo to use in the banner, at which point I discovered we had 3 different logos in use, all of which were a bit dated. Rather than pick one of the older logo's which were of dubious quality I decided that it would be simpler to create a new pretty one and a while later I ended up with this:-

I then tried to photoshop the new logo into the existing banner, at which point I discovered it was actually more work putting the new logo into the old banner than simply creating a new banner from scratch. After playing with it a bit more, I took the easy route and ended up creating a new banner as well. (Many thanks to Jetfreak for allowing me to use bits of his lovely cinematic POTD's!)
I ended up doing slightly more work than i'd expected, but I think it was worth it.
As a side note; if you need/want a logo for your mod all you have to do is ask.

I voted 'no' and I was right =D
Nope, it don't work...DONUTS!!!!!
Well I was able to vote...but considering 1,2 and 3 could not...I had to vote no for them
moar donutzz
Yeah, don't function, neither pic rateing, it always says I already voted even though I didn't
Well First I voted yes in good faith and all I Got was a blank screen. So Then I voted no and My vote accually went through! This is the First time I've tried to vote or post a comment since work has started on the site. It's good to see the comments are working at least.
looking at it today, I don't think my vote Really went through cause the poll numbers are exactly the same as yesterday's.
Nope, but the donuts are delicious, you must have some.
@8 Yeah that!
it works now
No, I do not think so.
Cool, I think they are working now. It let me vote, and I also voted on legacy files. I think they are almost fixed.
My screen didn't go blank like it used to, but my vote was not tallied.
lol its good being 1 of 5 who voted ... voted no by the way. nothing works besides comments usually
I voted Yes yesterday, and it hasn't shown up, so no
They have rigged the coding so only no votes n doughnuts count XD haha other than that im guessing u click yes and it says no
Voted yes, screen went blank. Pressed back button, voted again but for yes, am given results. Doesn't look like my vote was added though :/
even on the pics of the today
Holy crap it actually worked... Amazing.
Who is the tech dude that so called fixed the website? Because the polls are broke, and any POTD ever since the site resurrection is unvotable but any before it is! Though I can tolerate it, it really has to be fixed before the bug gets unfixable. I am just going to wait...
yup...got the white screen of non-operational...
You know I know not have corperate IT can be a pain but it would be nice to have an ETA on repairs
yep, still busted
it seems they can't find the ball they dropped......

I've been done for a bit, but I'm back and ready to get back to work. The mod is almost finished and should be finished by the end of the month; perhaps sooner. Here are some screenshots..

Ship sizes, weapons, and even the AI will be different in this mod. There will even be new ships for the Empire and Rebels. In all, this game will be more fun and more challenging. Keep your eyes open everyone; Fleet Command is coming back better than ever!

| | The Online Version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations - New Sites Posted by: theStarfleetKid on 10-25-2009 @ 14:20 - Source: http://fleetopsguide.freecp.net | | | This News Item has been viewed 8356 times! | Armada 2 News | Hi folks,
I should have done this a while back, but it seems I had forgotten that there was indeed a "submit news" feature on this site . For all of you who have Fleet Operations and have downloaded or heard of the Hitchhiker's Guide to FO you might have been wondering why no new versions of the Guide have been posted for several weeks. Well, it is with great happiness that I am able to say that the reason for this is because Zebh (and me to a much lesser extent) have been hard at working creating a semi-wikified website for the Guide for that time. . Perhaps every few weeks/months I will get a chance to update and post a pdf version, but the online version is quite a bit easier to keep up to date, and has a lot better features and functionalities.
Without further ado, here is the link, so take a look around and please give me as much feedback as possible that way we can make the Guide as useful as possible. http://fleetopsguide.freecp.net
One more thing, note that this is still a work in progress, and really although it would have been nice to release it fully formed, that will take some more time (alas neither of us are Zeus, even though many headaches are still involved). Hopefully it will still be useful, interesting, and enjoyable in its mostly completed state. Share and enjoy
Thing on task for to do:
-Ship Databases (even the "open" Fed one has some uncompleted sections dealing with warp in)--stats at each rank will be added as well for all relevant vessels (as well as build times).
-Tech Trees
-Feedback Section (wiki portion open to everyone)
-Design your own Strategies Section (wiki portion open to everyone)
-Map sharing section (open to everyone)
-Some download features and lots of pictures as well as a few other kinks...
