Picture of the Month Section Launched!! - Site News

PoTM for Armada 2 Files

This is a new feature of the site which we have added. This was originally on Legacy Files which has being running this for the last few months and even led to a PotM Archive being created going back to the start of the site - this will be implemented for Armada 2 Files in time to come. It also has made it's way to Elite Force Files and will be launched there pretty soon.

This Picture of the Month is basically the best Picture of the day for each month. A small part of the homepage is dedicated to it and clicking on the picture will send you to the page for that month. The one with the highest vote is decleared the winner (you actually win nothing other than applause for good work and time spent giving to this site, yes uploading PotDs is very important and it is greatly appreciated). If there is a tie in terms of rating then the one with the higher amount of votes gets the prize of the best PotD.

CLICK HERE to go to the winner's page for July or alternatively click on the picture in the PoTM section of the homepage (underneath the PotD Section on the left-hand side of the homepage)

Hope you enjoy! big grin

Thank You! This is a great idea to encourage more people to send in more PotDs. Many people's only interaction with this site is the PotD. Having a Picture of the Month is an excellent way to show off the skill and talent of all the people who contribute here. We should be justifiably proud of the fact that a six year old game has so many good people who spend enormous amounts of precious free time making stuff for us.

On Legacy Files, the PotD queue increased three fold when this feature was released.. Joel and I are planning a PotM archive but with a further 60 or so PotMs it will take time.. We may tackle it year by year. I'm glad you like it. PotDs are a very important facet of all Filefront sites big grin

Well, position can easily be changed. I thought it would be appropriate to go there as it is beneath the PoTD section, but if anyone else thinks it should be changed, we'll change it. I can understand the appeal though; having both the PoT features at the top is what the viewer will see first.

Nice feature, but I would recomend disabling the comment section. Due to the extremely bad and sometimes insulting comments I have receved before in the POTD section, has cause me to no longer submit POTDs.

I would hate to see this happen to the POTM. frown

The way the PotDs have been updated lately, you're well on track for turning the PotD into the PotM! stick out tongue

Seriously, though-- why not a Pic of the Week instead? A whole month of the same image.... like, even if it's quality it's going to get boring before we're halfway through the month. As it was, Ash used to pick "the best in queue" on a Sunday-- it was like we already HAD that feature in place.

@ The Starfleet Kid, Yeah, sorry. Its the first week of us having more than one person doing the POTD's regularly, and having set up a rota we had a couple of problems with people being off etc. It has been quite instructional, I don't anticipate seeing the same problems again as we have learned quite a bit from the experience.

The POTD's have been changed at fairly irregular hours, as I check the site a couple of times a day, and if it hasen't been done for a reasonable amount of time I step in and do it myself. To get things back to a regular schedule I will leave todays POTD change until approx 1900h (GMT) which is within a couple of hours when the POTD gets changed.

If negative comments or abuse of the feature didn't appear on Legacy Files PotM then I have no reason to think they would appear on the Armada FIles one, given that this community is older and far more stable. And if bad comments or unnecessary comments are posted then they will be deleted..

PotW is a good concept but it's not as exclusive as a PotM.. which would you rather have - your PotD becoming the best of the month or the best of the week? There can only be 12 PotMs a year, there would be 52 PotWs. I think having one of the 12 best voted PotDs in one year is a better reward than the top 52.

But then again maybe you disagree, either way this feature is now part of 3 Star Trek Filefront sites and unless Joel decides to kick this into touch, then it's going to be here for as long as the site goes on.

Remember, it is you the user who votes for the PotM by voting on the individual PotD.

Freyr-- was just pokin' fun; I've seen the explanations in the PotDs, and I commend the efforts of our mod crew in trying to work things out with a new set of hands. wink

IKS: I kinda like the PotW being 52 total contenders for the PotY (if that's where we're going with this) because then we can get BRACKETS goin'! It'd be like a Trek fan's version of March Madness! big grin

But I see your point re: exclusivity, too. I don't know; whatever you guys upstairs decide to do with it is awesomeness as far as I'm concerned.
