We know that Fleet Ops has, in its various projects, come up with some very interesting designs. With the latest project, they're of course carrying on that trend, but also not forgetting some of the older classes. Like previously done with the Federation Canaveral class, the Excelsior 2 is up for community input (and has already got some, view the source link at the top).
Heyho out there,
As we are still cleaning up the development version we are redoing a few of the old models. One of them is the Excelsior II. But this time we want you to take part in the redesign, too! We once did such a "community design" with the Canaveral Class and we do now want to continue this exiting experience. You will be able to chose which warp nacelles to put on her! But first some general pictures of the new design.
Its your choice!
Just so you understand, the first picture attached is a general shot of the Excelsior 2. The second and third are displays of the Type A Warp nacelle, whilst the fourth and fifth display the possible Type B nacelle. The choice is up to you.
Personally, I get the striking resemblance of the Sovereign. Granted the Sovereign was partially designed off the Excelsior, but I'm getting a large hint from it here. Not that that is bad, of course, but it should certainly make for a fun finished design, but, for it to be finished, you need to help make the decision.

I agree with HMS, type B are a little too pointed for the circular saucer. maybe if the saucer more resembled the sovereign's it could work, but then it wouldnt really be the Excelsior. So type A, being that seem to more resemble the excelsior style nacelles.

To the FleetOps Team (I trust they shall read this) - Could you not simply have a standard Excelsior Class? Or if required, an Exceslior Refit (Enterprise-B / Lakota)? Why do you need a 'new model'.
You've got various old designs in FleetOps already, the Constellation, the K't'inga, if you are going to keep these as you see fit, then I see no reason why you can't include a standard Excelsior model. Why it needs to be a posh refit I do not know.

if flops would just go and finnish that mod instead making public polls if a narcelle is more round or arrow shaped - well, they would use their time so much better.

I'm with Tycoon/Ash here. The Excelsior/II is a great design so why spoil it with a cheap refit that looks like a cheap rip off?

The Excelsior II has been a part of Fleet Operations since the first version on Armada 2. Unfortunately, the model has remained the same the entire time. This is simply a much-needed update of an old design.
To address the griping about the lack of Excelsior I's, Fleet Operations takes place after the design would be 100 years old. It's an ancient ship. Sure, we all like it, but it won't and quite simply can't stick around forever. Do you just assume that Starfleet will just keep gushing out resources to keep their aging spaceframes from falling apart and their antiquated technology from becoming obsolete over and over again?
However, someone in Starfleet apparently shared your predilection for it, because the Excelsior's replacement pays homage to the original in a way you'd think would be heartwarming and at the very least welcomed by those who felt a particular connection to the original.
So instead of seeing it as an abomination (which is what you certainly put across), try looking at it as a realistically needed replacement that someone saw fit to make it resemble the original... just to make you happy.
Maybe that will kill all the pessimism.

I like type A. I don't think sovereign nacel's look good on the excelsior, maybe voyager's would? I liked how the sovereign reverted its shuttle bays to the tail end. when your designing an excelsior for such a prominant project keep in mind you don't want to discrace it. Oberth, Miranda and Excelsior have been around for a long time and still in service hundreds of them. look at the prints and circle the 3 most recognizable features of the excelsior. work on little things. shuttle bays, escape pods, torpedo tubes, phaser strips and are they going to look weird on the saucer, is it going to have the new aft thrusters? I would start with that first
