Hi out there, one of the key features that differ between the PR and the final 3.0 release are the Borg. They are currently under heavy development and new vessels, abilities and weapons are tuned for the collective every day. So we decided to give you a small view into the current development and show you how the Borg are progressing.
A quite famous Armada1 Borg design was the Assimilator. A vessel dedicated to the sole purpose of assimilating hostile lifeforms into the collective. The Assimilator will of course have a great comeback in v3, too. The model has just been finished and here is a first rendering. A ingame screenshot will follow as soon as the model was optimized for ingame-display, but the appearance and quality won't change by this.

The Fleet Operations Assimilator will behave similar to the Armada1 Assimilator. But as a support vessel the Assimilator will feature two other abilities besides the Auto-Assimilation-Beam. More about them will be released in future news posts.

Ready your nanites, power your alcoves and prepare for assimilation in Fleet Operations v3.0
Resistance is Futile!

Looks Lovely, must be said. But yeah, another update here from the FO Team. Thats three as of recent. One can only hope the release will be soon. smile

Whooooo! This is one of my favorite Borg ships, just short of the Cube.

#1 no offence mate, but the model is virtually identical to any other assimulator model you may happen to see as it is always the same shape like all bord ships. Some people like to add detail to borg ships by making the surfaces uneven, but in this case it is the textures (and maybe a bump map?) that do that as far as I can tell, unless they have put the model detail on extremely subtlely.

The textures are fairly good and I'm sure will go well with the other bord ships in fleetops but not up to some of the standards of borg textures we've had on this site in the past. I do like the idea of it being a support ship, it does seem to fit that role perfectly.

actually many many parts of the assimilator are modeled. so the current look is a combination of both, textures and model.

Well, the Fleet Ops textures and quality I've seen from the current version out has been top notch, so I'm sure the Borg would match that high quality. ^_^ I'd imagine it'd be harder to tell the differance, though, since Borg ships do tend to look fairly patched together. It wouldn't stand out quite as much as, say, the Federation models have.
