  Fleet Operations: Klingon Mixed Tech Feature - Mods

I just noticed there were no Klingon updates for a long time, so we put some screenshots and news for you together to fix this

Although the complete Klingon remake is planed for a version after v3 we had to make a new yard for the mixed-tech feature. So we decided to redo the Field Yard. The old Field Yard model serves as the mixed-tech Experimental Yard at the moment.
You might notice that the new Field Yard looks much more like the small yard from Armada 1 then the old design.

Speaking about mixed-tech.. If a Klingon Player manages to take over Federation Technology she will gain access to a complete new Bird of Prey Generation. The E'Djen Class is an agile attack craft armed if a disruptor and two additional pulse disruptors featuring Federation-inspired Computersystems for better targeting and combat flexibility.

The detialed unitstats are:

22 Offensive Value
19 Defensive Value
7 System Value
2x Pulse Disruptor
Cloaking Device
Shootout (Passive): This vessel deals increased damage to targets with the same weaponrange as itself
WeaponRange: Medium Range

More information, unitstats and vessel lists about mixed-tech will come piece by piece till the v3 release, so stay tuned

To go alongside yesterdays wonderful update, we've another here, this time, more 'game' related than yesterdays.

Great idea, I just feel that this is where FO lets me down. It's not about values and special incidences, it's about weapons, strength and a heck of a lot of ships blasting it out over a maps resource...still, the yard looks good.

On the contrary, Jolt. The resources are often very tight and fleets are quite small. Also, ship values and special weapons are very important in combat. A massed fleet will simply not work against an enemy who knows even a little bit about counters. The one ship that WAS found to be imbalanced in this way, the Defiant, is being re-balanced for the V3 full release.

Oh, and on the side, have you played FO, Jolt? And if you did, did you happen to use infinite resources? If you play the game in that mode, all you have to do is macro a massive fleet and steamroll them, but that is not representative of the whole game.

1) Fleets being tight is not what I believe this game to be. If you want to play with smaller ships in a fleet, try Legacy, SFC3 or BC, not a FLEET command game (16 ships hardly constitutes as a fleet, whereas 160 (10 maxed "fleets"wink does count as one, but not an Armada. The game is an RTS of slug-fest ST universe, nothing less than that.

2) Yes...I have. I think I'd be doing an in-just service to not play one of the biggest mods on the site stick out tongue The above mentioned issue is what I dislike about it. I do not believe FO is true to what Armada used to be about and whilst I have no erks with making it look better, a lot of people (and I believen including FO) have sacrificed gamplay for albeit very nice looking stuff.

Fair enough.

However, where is the enjoyment in flinging hundreds of ships at each other when you can only select 16 at a time?! Abilities are meaningless when they need to be targeted
because you can't dream of microing in such large battles. It's also mind-numbingly dumb, due to the fact that the survival of your ships are meaningless. An attitude which hardly seems true to the ideals of Star Trek.

While you may believe that the true point of Armada is massive fleets, I believe that massive fleets are contrary to it; I believe that the true point is strategy, Star Trek strategy, and flinging masses of ships at each other is niether.

Actually you're wrong RedShirt. Whether you hate to admit it or not, throwing hundreds of ships at the enemy IS strategy (strength in numbers, overwhelm their forces, it's all historical wink) and whilst some may find it 'cheap' I believe it is valid. True that you can't really cry over your lost Galaxy or Akira class, but again, I think that's for another ST game, such as the ones I've mentioned above where if you lose a ship, you really gotta keep up.

The thing about RTS' games is that you have to strike the balance between playability and correctness. I think Armada gets it as good as it can get (bar the officer system, I hated that in A2, but they had it right in A1).
