Unofficial 1.2 Patch Released - Mods

Contrary to popular belief, we still support the Fleet Ops team (as evident by their mod profile to the side) but we cannot allow the files on the site at the current time. I just want to make that clear considering the nature of this article and the hypocracy you may believe comes with it. Needless to say, we're part of the Armada community and part of that duty is to share out news and we have some, so here it is.

Star Trek Armada II Patch Project

http://www.fleetops.net/

What is it?
The Star Trek: Armada II Patch 1.2 Project is an unofficial patch made by the developers of the Fleet Operations total conversion for Star Trek Armada II.
It is meant as a patch for every Armada II installation, despite of it is stock or has been modded. It patches serveral bugs that were not fixed with the latest official 2002 release of Patch 1.1. More and more reports of people not being able to play Armada 2 coming up as today people are using much more enhanced software and hardware than 5 years ago. The developers of Armada 2 targeted Windows 98 and partly Windows 2000 as plattform.

What is it not?
The patch project does not provide new textures sounds or anything else that is related to change the game experience. Patch 1.2 is fully backwards compatible with Armada 2 Patch 1.1. That means, you will be able to play together with people still using patch 1.1

What does it do?
Some of the most 'popular' bugs patched are:
- 'Sorry, there is not enough memory to continue' - screen
- Crash to desktop right after splash screen related to an stack overflow
- Multiplayer/Online crash with Vista (could fix Wine multiplayer issues too. To be confirmed).
Features
- An enhanced exception catching engine. The new patch makes Armada using madExcept by madshi as new exception handler which allowes you to send us extended debug info to us when a crash occuors on your computer related to Armada which we can fix for new releases of the Patch 1.2 Project.

Is that all?
No, it isn't. The first releases of Patch 1.2 are intended for bug fixing only. Later version will feature full widescreen support and new enhancements for mod developers.

Who should install Patch 1.2?
Everyone playing Star Trek Armada II. Fleet Operations players do not require to install this patch. An enhanced version of that patch is included in Fleet Operations 3.0 final.

As you can see, it's very handy, especially for you Vista gamers out there. Obviously, the file won't be on the site (please, no comments about that) but you will be able to find it at the Fleet Ops site. The features contained within do look interesting and the future potential of it is large, so this is one to keep an eye out for in the future if you're interested (and a Vista gamer).

Good work! What are these "new enhancements for mod developers", could you give more detail?

Seems kind of silly to me to promote something and then tell people they can't download it --but that's not your problem, admins, that's the site rules. You're just doing your jobs. Can't fault you for that.

I've never seen what everyone else sees in FleetOps but it sounds promising.

To answer, we can't host the files as it breaches our rules, but, there's no rule saying we can't say to people "Here is some news, contained within it is the location for the download".

They are trying to work within their rules, if they were really just trying to be mean they wouldn't mention it at all, its not their fault, probably some boss made a decision that everyone else has to be screwed over with.

I just downloaded Fleet Operations 3 PR, its funny if you install then try to patch it with this it won't let you even though it says its compatible with mods. I look forward to the realese of the final version of Fleet Ops that includes this patch so I can actually use it.

But that's what I said. You're doing what you can within the rules. Go team.
