Maybe you remember back a few years ago when Megadroid announced his mission mod? If not - a little refresher:
The Mission Mod allows any modder to create totally brand new missions for Armada II and Fleet Operations with a relatively easy to use structure made in Lua by Megadroid.
Missions can be made to be more complex than those released by retail A2, so get cracking! See you on the battlefield Smile
Comments and suggestions for new features can be made on the Fleet Ops forums. Original news post here: http://www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,10874.msg178198/
| | We Need PotDs. - Site News Posted by: theStarfleetKid on 10-01-2011 @ 18:20 | | | This News Item has been viewed 7914 times! | Armada 2 News | I took a look through the current queue for PotDs and I found something interesting:
- Presently there are 160 PotDs standing by and waiting to be uploaded
Only thirty-five of those PotDs are from authors other than Jetfreak
(this is not a complaint - Jet makes awesome PotDs.)
- The last new PotDs to be uploaded to the site were added to the queue in July
Less than thirty new PotDs have been uploaded in the past six months (since April 2011)
So we're asking: submit as many of your new PotDs as soon as you can. Don't let the 1-voters scare you, either.

Poll's still borked over at JK3files... They don't have miracle worker Engies over there. *cries*
this says 12 comments then i click it but only one comments...me thinks there still broke
lol Almost. but I also chose the "Why aren't the images, then?" option
In fact when I opened A2files it showed the "There are no new poll topics" again, only after I had logged in did it show the new topic.
Something else: I would love to see some polls that help at making decisions in total conversions. Things like: What tech setting do you normally play with, or what tech could you live without.
Perhaps those polls were already there, but maybe some opinions have changed, and in that case it would also be nice to have the results of such surveys accessible long after.
plus ship ideas are getting ing because too many people making feds right now!!
fix this site
pics download files work now so we know what we are looking at!

| | A request for your patience - Site News Posted by: theStarfleetKid on 05-06-2011 @ 18:53 | | | This News Item has been viewed 13776 times! | Armada 2 News | So as you've no doubt noticed by now, things are an absolute mess on the server side. The Break IT team is in the process of remaking the back-end of the site so that it actually works. This will be a welcome change. Without giving too much away, the code behind the A2Files we all know and love is as old as the game itself. And we all know how frustrating the classLabel and other ancient aspects of the game code can be to work around. What the IT people are doing at present isn't just some Fleet Operations-style revamp of the existing code. It's a complete replacement of the code. It's like taking A2 and rewriting the code so it works like the best parts of Trek Online, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Star Wars Empire at War. It's going to take some time.
In the meantime, just so we're clear:
- The file upload system should, for the most part, remain unaffected. So if you upload new mods, they'll be on the site within days, unless you're told otherwise. And you WILL be informed, at least as far as I'm able. There is presently no good reason for you not to make your mods available to the entire community. A2Files is still the only place around where you can do that. We welcome all submissions.
- PotD will continue to be erratic. So will the images associated with files. We will work to restore all that stuff once the overall progress is sufficiently far along to make it worth our while. But the picture server, since it's so much more deeply encoded, will be much more buggy than anything else. Sorry.
- No, absolutely not. That is our answer to anyone who thinks that these upgrades mean the end of A2Files, or the community's end, or whatever. We're still modding. We're still here. Yeah, the place looks a little messy but renovations usually are. What makes A2Files so great is that it's still our place. And we're what makes it that way.
One last thing. We know you're frustrated. We're frustrated, too. Unfortunately these IT types don't really understand, or particularly care about, the meaning of the term 'customer service'. We all deserve better. But the fastest way to get there is, unfortunately, to be patient, to wait and see. We hope you're still around to read this. And for what it's worth..... we're sorry for the mess.

Well now there is a new topic...
I chose that i would download if it peeked my interest, however there are other deciding factors.
Pics really help. If a ship that i might not have normally liked has a picture that blows me away, i might just download it, whether it be for textures or weapons, or maybe my mind was changed about the ship.
then again... I haven't been doing much trek modding, so as of late, only non trek mods have really interested me. FleetOps mods are cool too, but now almost every mod should work in FO, so it doesn't make much of a difference any more.
I generally DL everything my favourite modders release. Beyond that, I usually DL stuff if it looks great or has some interesting functionality.
I usually keep away from FO mods. In my opinion the devs carefully balance everything - changing the balance by adding stuff doesn't feel right.
@ 1
Almost every mod should work in fleet ops?
This attitude is exactly the reason why I wont be waisting my time with modding this game any more.
@Avon, calm down. What he means is that the FO developers have improved their special coding. So now you're able to just plug a mod for stock A2 into FO and it works.
You're right, of course. I re-read it, and realised my misunderstanding / dumb stupidity. My apologies
lol, no problem. I too often see people doing as you suggest. implying that a mod isn't good enough unless it is in FO. I completely disagree with them. Mods are equal. You can't simply say that "this weapon is better than that ship mod because it is from FO" or even, this ship is better because it is in FO. Only those who aren't resourseful enough to figure out how to apply a mod to any install are the ones who complain. For those, there is no excuse as there is a big old guide out there just to show you how. They are no better then the people who complain about a mod when it has no .exe auto installer.
Anyway, as Terra said, the devs have reverted alot of their code back to its original labels so that those who would like to try their own mods in FO might be able to without too much effort. Now, almost any modification should be able to work in Fleetops without too much effort, so nobody should complain if it wasn't made for FO. Its so easy anyone with the ability to install a mod can do it if that is what they want . And did I mention that there is now a guide to help?
I have even been able to directly use the Physics Project in FleetOps making FO that much more epic.
I generally just care about how the model looks. I can do anything I need to coding or sprite wise to get it into my game in the role I want it but my modelling ability is lacking.

I created it using Milkshape and some modified textures from a picture and some textures from an unknown modeler's orion wanderer from the FASA Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator. It has 2264 polies with 512 textures and doesn't have a reliable scale to it since I couldn't find one anywhere, and the revolving lights don't work since I do not have Max or suitable program to do animations with, but it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Since the picture function isnt working well lately I will send a pic using the comment function if I can.

Wait a second I'm confused!
@Limebarker
Just do some texture adjustments to Federation models and balm, you have your Terran Empire fleet.
more bad guys
seriously, i need more bad guys to blow up.
everytime i got a better model for a ship (in my personal mod) i took the old one and made it a Terran version, i had a complete race almost
there isn't a Terran Version up on the site yet part because they put a copy right on all ships!!
oh poll, y u no make sense...
THere's always a new poll to have as long as they keep making donuts....

I submitted some pics a few months ago so I contribute too.
I also support and give my opinions on pics, I rate fairly too! I also support the awesome pic guys like sov, jet, charls, dasjagwolf and other bad-ass pic makers since they've been setting great standards for us! Don't let the 1-voters get to you! You're inspirations to me!
Fleet ops also gives us a chance for normal guys like me to take crisp pics! I think its safe to say that our graphics can still keep up with BC and Legacy thanks to their shots.
Also I was under the understanding there was like several months worth of pic in the que. Has that changeed?
We have around three hundred pics in the queue. Almost all of them come from any one of ten people. We have more than ten people in the community. Thus, the poll. It's not to ask for more PotDs. It's to ask why more people arent submitting PotDs.
Competing with Jetfreak, Thunderfoot and Dan? I have absolutely no chance
I have no good ideas on any Filefront site
I don't submit photos as there seems to be a lot of internal rivalries/and/or misgivings and even further opportunity for such via the rating system. The system for submition is also frustrating, as all my pics are PNGs, and I'd prefer to submit more than one at a time.
I really must get back to submitting pics regularly again, havn't done so in a while.
I do agree with Dom though the system could use updating - being able to upload multiple pics at one time in other formats (.PNG) would make it much more appealing to submit pics.
My pic's aren't of high enough quality, so I chose "I can't compete with the guys who do it now"
(and I rarely play A2 anymore... I only add ships/stations/weapons and test )
I agree with Dom and Dan about the upload system needing updating. Plus perhaps when there are so many by a select few perhaps those uploaded by people who don't regularly could be pushed up. That would encourage me to upload a bit more and those whom have theirs posted every other day wouldn't be too worried I would think.
Onto the poll, the main real reason I don't submit is a number of reasons, firstly there are way too many to really bother with, 300, I don't want to upload and then have to wait almost a year before I see it posted up. Secondly, some people are rather lets say not very diplomatic when commenting on peoples images. They just see what is wrong with it rather then giving the artist some positive feedback and tell them what they like about the image or that they actually like it.
Lastly that 1 voter he is just nasty! lol,
Really I am not bothered by him I think he is a rather sad person personally. Just though I would add that. A tad of comedy value for us all.
I used to submit potds years ago. Most of them I liked and was proud of however once posted they were compared to a select other few people's works and not rated very well. Eventually I just got tired of my pics being compared to people's pics that I didn't have the hardware specs and graphic abilities to match and gave up. This isn't meant as a knock towards those few who submit dazzling potds, just that the bar is set quite high for anyone trying to submit their own pics.
I usually try to bring a balanced selection of PotDs, favoring pics from people who rarely submit PotDs. But I can't do that if there are none... We have about 200+ pics from Jetfreak in the queue, try to balance THAT.
i submitted a bunch over the last year or so, but my disc no longer works and i cant get the iso to work either, until i do no new A2 pics from me
i lmao at the last choice "I'm an idiot who votes '1' on everyone else's PotD "
@charles - I roflmao at the fact that three people have already voted for that option...
@Terra, I did post one or two some months ago, yet I haven't seen them posted. Were they missed or something?
Honestly I couldn't even tell you what the images were of, that it was that long ago. Plus I didn't see them in the archives so I didn't miss it on the day that it could've been posted.
Honestly, I have submitted a couple, but who needs to when Jetfreak has the whole queue clogged up with his masterpieces?
@maj - I have no idea. I've been unable to access staff features for a while now, and I'm not the only one. Backend problems being fixed ATM. I'll see where the pics have gone as soon as I have access again.
Thanks Terra. I may post some more in coming months, if this system of pushing those whom don't post much to the front of the line. I think a little variation would be good. Might be nice once I finish the modelling process for my ENT mod.
I voted that I didn't have ideas, but after reading the comments I think I'll try and submit some anyway.

Other. ALL OF THEM!!!!
Holodecks: And all of your dreams come true.
Or replicators. No more starving children -and I could eat pancakes every day
replicators or transporters, both would completly change the world
Hyposprays already exist, it's just kinda big and loud.
i hate to said it but Transporters, Replicators, Holodecks, use roughly the same tech not they so any of the above
Well, replicators are not so far away as most people think.
Just take a look at the machines used for rapid prototyping. They can produce an item within minutes to hours depending on their size and complexity. But wait a decade or two.
Holo decks maybe a hundred years.
Transporters are a nice item in the show but a scientific impossibility ( Heisenberg !!) But they would be cool !!
Transporters via entanglement are possible eventually (works on small packets of particles now)... it's just not very feasible (lot of energy involved).
I voted Other:
I would like to see subpace fields or something similar. Most of the things in the voting list use subspace fields to some degree, not to mention faster-than-light travel.
I had a hard time choosing between holodecks and replicators, but decided holodecks because I like to cook and I would probably never cook again if I had a replicator (out of laziness). Hand phasers, tricorders, combadges, and hyposprays would basically be advancements on existing tech, though. Tricorders are basically a bunch of stuff like Geiger counters and MRIs crammed into a handheld device, phaser like weapons could be achieved with lasers, and combadges aren't much different than cellphones with voice recognition dialing.
It was a tough choice, but I'm gonna go with transporters ... Gas prices are killing me!
Holodecks are a close second, I always wanted to take a swing at my boss , and ofcourse I have 'other' fantasies
Gotta be replicators at least... end world hunger by replicating food- well anything but corn...
Replicators/transporters (two sides of the same coin). you could program them to make ANYTHING. not to mention copy whatever you make ad infinitum.
WANT to see: Transporters
Think we will most LIKELY see next: Holodecks

I have LOTS of Copies. And after what happened to my a1 disc, loosing my arm would happen sooner...
My disk hasn't left my pc in like 3 years
I keep my disc in a locked drawer.. funnily enough most of the things that are in there would be worthless to a burgular, and they tend to go for locked drawers first ;-)
Moved on. Already. I haven't played a decent A2 game for ages. I dunno, it just doesn't attract me anymore
After reading this poll, I had a panic. Not seen my disk for ages.
After a frantic search, I found it safely in my pc. Phew!
Think I'm the same as Starfox, probably been in there for some years, lol
I have like four copies, all created from the original so it won't wear out the original. Plus the reason I have so many oddly enough is because I had lost my burned played disk and then found it a few days afterwards.
I have copies all all the games I play that need disks including AOE III. A1, A2, Sins of a Solar Empire, EAW, Empire Earth etc.
why would u worry the second i installed it i got an iso file so i could play a2 with that instead of having to put the disk in EVERYTIME i want to play it.
I play from a copy of my CD. And I have a spare (picked up for £0.50 because I couldn't resist at that price)
@Freyr - who could? I definitely wouldn't be able to resist, too.
I have several backups of my A2 disk stored on various HDDs. Mostly I just run A2 from the disk image and have the original CD stored safe on my CDROM shelf.
I have the install backed up everywhere. and the ISO. and the disc lives in my laptop lol
I did in fact lose my disc once, which reminds me has anyone seen my arm?

I feel both are pretty important, on one hand everyone loves a full total conversion, however if there aren't new things constantly coming out in the meantime, well it's not good for keeping people interested and the community progressing and attracting new modders to the game. As a TC can take years depending on the amount of people working on it, the time one can give to the project and the motivation behind it as a modder always needs a break from modding like with anything in life.
I'm working on H:FC with Dino, Dan, and FG.
Just visiting now and then. The modding euphoria left me long ago
I am also a member of the team as is Cabal.
I still love the game, it's mods, and this site but I haven't played in ages so I suppose it's "just visiting" for me. Sad to see that that's the majority vote on the poll
Besides, I sort of... uh... Fleet Ops... :|

STO is dull, simple, nonmoddable, expenmsive, doesn't have the proper music, has a ridiculous timelien and even more ridiculous starships (ENT-style BoP for the Rommies?! Mega LOL!).
Modding A2 ftw, those Onliners be pwned!
STO looks cool, and i'd be willing to get it but SUBSCRIPTION BASED? WTF????
Quote: SUBSCRIPTION BASED? WTF????
Yeah it's what has turned me off the game, I don't have the money to buy the game and then have a monthly fee. It's totally stupid, either one or the other not both.
So a modded A2 any-day for me.
I haven't played ST:O, but I'd rather play even an UNMODDED ST:A2 rather than ST:O

plus wait time so you don't have ask is like 2 1/2 years, just remember give them credit in the read me and that it.
"wait time so you don't have to ask is 2 1/2 years"
Where did you hear that? Because it's not correct.
Agreed. You ALWAYS need to ask for permission, no matter how many years it's been.
Believe it, or not, even modders from 10 years ago are still around somewhere, you just need to know where to look.
And if you dont know where to look, ask in the forums, as someone else may know.
If you have indeed made several attempts to actually contact them, and had no replies, you should really check with Freyr or Starblade for them to make the decision about it, as they run this site.
Diddo in what Avon has said. I agree fully and wholeheartedly.
I voted for: "I respect the credit system in everything I release, and expect everyone else to, too" however the option "Everything I release is what I make, and I expect others to respect my rights as its creator" was a close second.
What Avon said. If you have material you can't get permission for because you don't know how to contact these modders from a previous era of A2 modding, then ASK ME OR FREYR about it and we'll see if we can't help you out. I would much rather get e-mails or PMs looking for help, and then see mods released, instead of having unreleased mod content out there because people give up on getting permission or giving proper credit.
there is a is a time to forget or more on, when play games because you can get bored of it.
The only problem with this poll is that you can't vote for more options...
And nobody has to mod the game. Heck, you even can create your own site and post your works even without credits (so at least partially stolen). Very impolite and most likely worth a ban from Filefront, but you can do that.
I just can't get it why is it so hard for some people to send an e-mail with three phrases. Even experienced modders are men. They won't bite, and most of them will grant permission. If they don't it's usually not because of you but because they wouldn't give it to anyone.
no money, to download so why ask? Why not just credit because at least they get the credit to be happy!
@#8 - See, some modders don't want to have their work used in certain ways, or want to be asked before allowing use. This may hinder your ability to use their work, but you have to abide by it.

@10 why don't you just download the tutorial off of this site? That's how the rest of us learnt
There need to be pictures step by step because a pictures can tell a 1000 words, where what the tutorial here is just words!
Have you looked at the existing tutorial in the BBOM?
