Gabe Newell: "Most DRM Strategies Are Just Dumb"

Most video game fans have not been happy with the recent DRM suddenly seeping its way into some of their favorite games (at least, if the outcry against games like Spore and Mass Effect are any indication). Since game developers tend to be fans as well, it’s not surprise really that even those in the industry are not pleased with the current direction that copyright protection is taking. Now Gabe Newell of Valve has expressed his disapproval with DRM in the form of an e-mail to gamer, Paul Reisinger. In the e-mail, Newell stated:

Dreamworks’ upcoming movie is launching complete with a cross platform Monsters vs. Aliens videogame. Players will take on Gallaxhar and his giant alien robots alternating between a team of wacky monsters to save the world.
New Street Fighter IV Screens Raise Some Character-Related Questions

Capcom has unveiled a new batch of Street Fighter IV screens that focus on some of the not-so-classic characters in the roster. You know, those characters that showed up sometime after the huge surge in Street Fighter popularity and just never lived up to the likes of Ryu or Chun-Li. Characters like Sakura, you’re typical ass-kicking schoolgirl (those apparently terrorize the streets of Japan). Or Dan, who’s a bit like Ryu and Ken only…different.

Building on the success of its social networking site, Gaia Online is taking a step into the MMO field by opening the zOMG! Beta to the public. ZOMG! is a free to play, flash-based so it doesn’t require downloading a client. The game combines social networking with community activities and streaming music.
